Description
Pittosporum tenuifolium 'Tom Thumb' is an unusual variety of Pittosporum; its deep purple hued leaves are offset with the contrasting new growth of light green leaves which emerge on striking grey-black stems creating a an interesting and colourful appearance for which this shrub is popular.
Pittosprorum 'Tom Thumb' is an evergreen shrub that is very dense in habit. It is slow-growing also so it's ideal for low hedging and even topiary in addition to being grown as a standalone shrub.
This variety of Pittosporum prefers a sheltered location and is easy to grow in fertile, moist but well-drained, soil. It may need protection in winter from hard frosts or cool, drying winds. Plant in full sun for the best leaf coluration although it will also grow in a partially shaded spot.
