Description

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue' have large flowerheads, made up of clusters of deep powder-blue flowers with a hint of lilac over glossy green foliage. The flowers bloom throughout the summer months from around June onwards and are long-lasting. The showy, large blooms are highly attractive to bees and other beneficial pollinating insects and will look impressive and eye-catching in any garden.

Plant Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue' in a sheltered location away from cold, drying winds in a sunny or partially shaded position for the best flowering. Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue' shrubs prefer moist but well-drained soil. To keep the blue colouration, the soil should be kept slightly acidic or the flowers can take on pinkish tones.

Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue' are deciduous, bushy shrubs with a rounded shape. They will grow up to 2m height and spread but can be managed at a smaller size if pruned back each spring. By pruning back your Hydrangea macrophylla 'Blue' fairly hard in March/April and taking around a third of the plant out back to its base, it will encourage new, healthy shoots and increased flower production in the summer.
