Cotoneaster franchetii Hedge Plants Description
Cotoneaster franchetii hedging has sage green leaves with white undersides, five-petalled white flowers tinged with pink in May and June and an abundance of deep orange-red, pearl sized bird-friendly berries in autumn. It is very hardy and suitable for all soils other than very wet and any situation from full sun to dense shade. See also our range of hedging plants for shade.
Trim Cotoneaster franchetii after the berries have fallen. It is an evergreen but some leaves will drop in autumn and it can also take on an autumn colour some years. Cotoneaster franchetii is suitable for coastal areas and performs well in exposed sites. See more options for hedging for exposed sites.Cotoneaster franchetii has also been shown to be effective at reducing pollution in heavily trafficked areas, soaking up 20% more toxins than other hedging varieties with its dense, evergreen, hairy leaves.
The key difference between Cotoneaster franchetii and Cotoneaster lacteus is that franchetii is more erect and does not need the support of a wall or fence. We also stock Cotoneaster horizontalis and Cotoneaster simonsii, but if you're unsure which variety of cotoneaster is right for you, try out our Cotoneaster Hedging Guide.
