Description
Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' is a variegated and attractive new variety of Fatsia japonica. It shares the same palmate leaf shape but its deep-green leaves look as though they have been frosted or webbed, hence its name. It still produces the spherical white flowers and blue-black berries in autumn however for additional seasonal interest.
Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' is a more compact variety of Fatsia making it a better option for smaller gardens than the larger Fatsia japonica. Plant in moist, well-drained soil and ideally in a sheltered, partially shaded location, although this variety will also tolerate full shade. Ensure you protect the plant from hard frosts and cold, drying winds.
This eye-catching evergreen shrub will grow to around 2.5m height and spread. Its leaf variegation alters in depth and intensity through the seasons making this an attractive and interesting addition to the garden offering lots of visual interest and textures. Fatsia 'Spider's Web' particularly complements other white flowering plants but is also perfect on its own as a specimen shrub. Either way it is sure to become a firm garden favourite.
Fatsia japonica 'Spiders Web' is low maintenance and can simply be left to grow. If needed, trim any shoots that affect the symmetry of the plant in mid-late spring.
