Dwarf Lavender Hedge Plants Description
Dwarf Lavender is a compact yet impressively fragrant, low-growing lavender, perfect for garden borders, pathways or rockeries. With piercing purple-blue hued flowers, this hardy, semi-evergreen Lavender variety pairs well with other larger Lavender varieties, such as English Lavender, Lavender 'Hidcote', White Lavender, or French Lavender.

Dwarf Lavender is low-growing and best suited to a height of less than 50cm. Dwarf Lavender plants have an average growth rate and can be expected to achieve 20-40cm per year. Lavandula angustifolia 'Little Lady' prefers a sunny, sheltered site and grows best in normal, well-drained soils, but take care not to over-water.

Is Dwarf Lavender Evergreen?
All lavender varieties are technically classed as evergreen, as in warmer climates they retain their grey-green foliage year round. However, the cooler UK climate means Lavender starts to lose its flowers in August and plants go into dormancy from early autumn until late spring. During dormancy the foliage turns brown and twiggy, appearing to die back. This is perfectly normal and as the weather warms in late spring, your Lavender plant will once again become green with new shoots.

Pruning Advice
Lavandula angustifolia 'Little Lady' requires a light prune after flowering. Unlike other lavenders, this dwarf variety is a little more delicate and being smaller growing requires a less aggressive pruning. However, it as advisable to still prune at the end of August prior to the plant becoming dormant to encourage new growth and flower production for the year after.
Prune back the flowers and also some of the stem to allow the light to reach further into the plant. Small stems will then start to grow before dormancy providing a good growth basis for the following year.
Lavender and Dormancy
It's important to note that when Lavender goes into dormancy from early autumn until late spring, it will become brown and twiggy .This is perfectly normal and it will become green again in the spring. Read our Hedges Direct Lavender Guide for more advice and information.
