Description
Buddleia davidii 'White Profusion' Butterfly Bush is a large, vigorous, deciduous shrub with long, white, sweetly-scented flower spikes with golden centres and long, lance-like green leaves with pale undersides. The long, tapered flower spikes, up to 40cm long, are magnets for butterflies but also attractive to a host of pollinating insects. Buddleja 'White Profusion' has a flowering period between July and September, providing an excellent source of late season food for pollinators and extending the blooming season in the garden. In autumn the leaves take on golden-yellow tones before falling.
Buddleia 'White Profusion' is a bushy shrub with fairly vigorous growth of up to 40cm a year. It has a softly arching habit and can grow to around 8-9ft tall and equally wide although it can be easily maintained at a smaller size. Ideally, Buddleja 'White Profusion' benefits from a good amount of space in a sunny bed or border for optimal growth.
Deserving of the RHS 'Award of Garden Merit', Buddleja davidii 'White Profusion' is a pretty, eye-catching and sweetly fragrant plant which is beautiful when in bloom. It thrives in sunnier positions, although it will tolerate partial shade and is best grown in well-drained but moist and fertile soil for optimal growth.
We recommend deadheading the flowers on your Buddleja 'White profusion' once spent to encourage further flower production. To maintain the plant, prune it back hard in March, back to around 3 or 4 buds - this will ensure healthy growth and good flower production in summer.
