Hebe 'Sutherlandii' Hedge Plants Description
Hebe Sutherlandii is a hardy, compact evergreen shrub that is perfect for an informal flowering hedge. The pretty, small-leaved, grey-green foliage and contrasting purple stems are offset by attractive white blooms. It flowers profusely with long tapered flower spikes from late summer, throughout autumn and often into early winter.
Classed as a dwarf variety of Hebe growing to only around 45cm in height, Hebe 'Sutherlandii' is perfect for low hedging and smaller outdoor spaces. It is very tolerant of salt laden air so is an ideal planting option for coastal gardens. It is also very pollution tolerant making it an excellent choice for urban gardens too, particularly where space may be limited.
Hebe 'Sutherlandii' prefers a sunny situation and moist well drained soil and benefits from being protected from fierce winter winds. It is initially fast growing so it quickly reaches its maximum height and then becomes very low maintenance. Hebe 'Sutherlandii' prefers to be neatened up into a series of mounds or a rounded hedge rather than have hard edges imposed on it but is easy to trim and keep to shape.
